About Aviation Calculators
This site is a set of 30 aviation calculators covering the atmosphere, wind and airspeed, navigation, fuel, and flight path geometry. It exists because most of the calculators available online give you a number and nothing else: no method, no worked example, and no statement of where the answer stops being trustworthy.
What it does
Every calculator has its own page. Each one shows the formula it uses, explains what the result means, works through an example with a figure checked against a published reference, and lists the limitations and the mistakes people commonly make with that particular calculation.
Where a full physical model and a cockpit rule of thumb disagree, the page uses the full model and tells you how far the rule of thumb is out. Density altitude and true airspeed are the clearest examples: the familiar shortcuts are useful in the cockpit but drift by a few hundred feet or a few knots, and it is better to know that than not.
What it deliberately does not do
- No takeoff or landing performance, no weight and balance approval, and no go or no go verdicts. Those depend on aircraft specific approved data and cannot responsibly be generalised.
- No pre-filled aircraft profiles or typical values. Where a figure is specific to your aircraft, such as fuel flow, glide ratio or fuel density, you enter it. Filling those in for you is how a calculator quietly becomes wrong.
- No regulatory reserve defaults. Reserve requirements differ by country and by operation, so the reserve is always yours to enter.
- No live weather, no airport database, no accounts, no location access, and no advertising.
How it is paid for
It is free, it carries no advertising, and it sells nothing. There is no newsletter and no account to create. Running costs are low because the site is static files with no server behind them.
Privacy
There is no analytics script, no tracking, and no cookies. Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your browser, because every calculation runs on your own device. The privacy page has the detail.
Corrections
If you find an error in a calculation, a formula, or an explanation, please report it. A wrong number on a site like this is worth fixing quickly, and a specific report with the inputs you used is the fastest way to get it fixed. Use the contact page.
Everything here is an educational and planning aid. It is not a substitute for current official weather, your aircraft flight manual, or the rules that apply to your flight. See the aviation disclaimer.
